A New Year: reflection of me

As the new year approaches I can not help but to look back on the past years & see how far I have come...It is amazing how the little steps we take can alter our life in such a big way...How we can fail over & over again, but gain so much from each fall...Yet no matter how much success you have or how you obtained it, there will always be those who will question your existence & hunger to knock you down....So with that said I wanted to share my story, my journey....Sometimes in order to move forward, you must reflect back...

to remind yourself of who you are &

why you're here to stay!

If I were to pave out my whole life to you I would need a novel & you would need a good month to read my blog...there would be a lot of events in my life you would not believe...I feel sometimes as if I lived the life of a 50 year old , but in reality Im only 30...I have not seen the world, I have not jumped out of a plane & I have not swam with sharks( all things on my bucket list)...but I do know one thing...

I have worked hard to get to where I am, knowing it is just the beginning...

You have to realize I left everything I had & moved from a small town in Arizona to New England...I was at a school where I knew no one..there were times I felt alone & wondered what the hell was I doing!!! When I graduated college I was scared to think I may have made the wrong choice...Maybe I should have been a Nurse, human rights activists, a teacher, joined the peace corp-all things I pondered. But instead I followed my dreams of entertaining, being creative...

being a makeup artist?

Some of you who are makeup artists knew this is what you wanted to be at Birth...for me I had always loved makeup, but had never thought I could make it as a career, in reality I wanted to be an Actress! On the red carpet, playing different characters, inspiring others...little did I know my limelight would come from a different direction!! Straight out of College I worked on my first Indie film "A New Wave" as an Asst. Makeup Artist. After the film wrapped I worked various retail jobs to make ends meet & decided to eventually go back to school for Esthetics so I could do makeup professionally. It was at this point I got a job at A L'Oreal boutique in Connecticut. At the time it was another job to pay bills...not realizing it would be my foundation for my career.

Those of you who have worked retail know its no walk in the park. I ended up becoming a Manager..my life was eat, breathe, live, sleep L'Oreal...for 60 hours a week L'Oreal became my family, my home & sometimes a place I wanted to run away from. Yet for 4 years it molded me, stregthened me & inspired me to who I am today...When the store eventually closed I had the opportunity to look at my life & decide in what direction should I go? Should I continue a retail life...should I pick a new career or should I fight to continue with a Brand that had become so much of who I was...

I think you know the answer!

Im very blessed to have maintained relationships within L'Oreal after the store closed, these individuals had faith in me & saw my hunger; giving me opportunities to continue on with the brand...Im a firm believer others can point you in the right direction, but you ultimately have to discover & create the path...be proactive...showcase who you are...sometime step on some toes & prove yourself...As we know with this comes spectators...those who feel entitled to have what you are gaining...those who feel they are above the clouds...

but If you are smart you will simply smile

use their envy as fuel to your fire

I get the question a lot..Why L'Oreal? Why not Chanel, Bobbi Brown, Dior...The answer is simple...because! Because it defines empowerment, it defines beauty & it speaks to women of all shapes/sizes, demographics, ages..And it spoke to me at a very young age...I remember being little, in my grandmothers bathroom...I would love watching her put on her makeup, playing through her makeup bag, seeing what items I could steal without her noticing. She loved her lipstick! Her lipstick of choice was Clinique, but there was this one Lip color, a red one..She said to me "its the perfect red. No matter how down you are a lipstick will always make you happy Tiffany." It was a L'Oreal lip color...So perhaps it was a foreshadow of my life, but I would never forget that found memory of her. From cradle to grave it is apart of our lives in some way. I could choose any other Cosmetic Company out there, but I would be doing myself a dis-service. I have to represent something I feel passionate about!!!

I think back now & wish I had kept my mouth shut when In high school. I told all my friends I was going to be famous one day! "You'll see me on the big screen." I laugh at those moments now, knowing ive accomplished a lot of those dreams, but in a different way. Ive been on TV, on stage, an educator, a writer, a speaker, working with celebrities, meeting my idol...however, as grateful I am for all of those things, nothing can compare to helping a woman discover their beauty...seeing them transform with the touch of color...it always reminds me of what my grandmother had told me...she was right...

Now I strive to have my brushes in all different projects..working not only for L'Oreal but Stila, ESPN, various charities, freelance work with Runway, photo shoots, Bridal...Being creative is the best medicine you can give yourself & in turn you never know who your creative talent can help! Ill continue to grow, learn & push myself into the artist & woman I want to be. The gifts given to you are only due to hard work.

This was my 9th time on a plane this year...But for me it's so Worth It to work with my Fellow Pro Team Members & EXCUSE ME its OPRAH!!!

First Stop off the plane was to check in at The Marriott in Buckhead to freshen up & give a little belated B-Day gift to my Bestie & Celebrity makeup Artist, Brandy Gomez-Duplessis...

Than is was off to the Convention Center to train the local Hotlanta Artists on the latest & greatest product we would be featuring at O You!

Now us Pro Team work really hard, but we love to play even harder!! You know its always an entertaining time when we get together....and Ladies...

TEYONCE always makes an appearance!

The next day was the O You kickoff! Thousands of women flooded in to see all the amazing writers that contribute to O Magazine and of course the O herself, OPRAH!

Brandy, Denise and I were in the greenroom all day working with such talent as Nate Berkus, Martha Beck, Dr. Oz...the list goes on!

And we even got a visit from Oprah herself...in a gorgeous fuscia dress and bare feet( apparently she doesnt like to wear heels unless shes on stage- go ahead girl!)

The most amazing moment was having the opportunity to watch Oprah speak on stage- tears came to my eyes when she spoke & the message was so powerful! She spoke about "knowing who you are" & no matter what the "service" is to remember to help others & in turn it will help you grow & become the person you are meant to be....Amen to that Preacher Oprah!

And of course TEYONCE has to have a photo shoot wherever she goes....

Beauty Questions Answered

I asked the question.."If you could ask a Pro Makeup Artist anything, what would it be?" Well here are your questions...Answered!

*What is the best way to cover up/hide a. a REALLY giant pimple that just popped up, and b. a cut/scratch, and c. bruise
When dealing with blemishes that popped up one morning and you want to conceal its important to remember to NOT pop it! This will only make the matter worse! I sometimes will put a cold compress on it to reduce any swelling, apply a medicated spot treatment to treat any bacteria, moisturize with an oil free lotion & use a long wear cover up stick that has a heavier coverage than your daily concealer you may use under the eye. I find this concealer will help with a cut or scratch as well, followed with powder to set.
TRY L'Oreal Paris Infallible Concealer. It gives you 16 hr wear & allows for great coverage.

Bruises need a little extra care for covering up. Depending on the color of the Bruise you want to start with a color corrector in Green and/or yellow to neutralize the Bruise color and than layer with your concealer or foundation. Its all about layering when it comes to bruises!

I love using Derma Blend Face and Body Cream. It will help cover scars, cuts & Bruises.

*What is best way to cover up dark circles under eyes?

Everyone has dark circles and they come from many factors. Stress, dehydration, allergies..the list goes on. But you first want to make sure you are using a Eye Cream both Day/Night. This will help to promote good tissue, elasticity, circulation and hydration around the eye area.

Try L'Oreal Paris Collagen Filler Eye Illuminator. It has micro light reflective pearls to help Brighten up the eye and penetrate down into the skin helping to plump from within.

To cover up those Dark Circles use a concealer after you hydrate. The trick is to mix in a little bit of the Collagen Filler eye illuminator into your concealer to help brighten up those beautiful eyes! You can also take a pearly eyeshadow and place in the inner corner of the eye and right below the arch of your brow. This will help to open the eye shape and deter away from any darkness.

TRY L'Oreal Paris Studio Secrets Eyeshadow Single in Morning Light, Shroom Shimmer or Satin Tutu

*Best way to get ALL the mascara and eyeliner off, there seems to always be some left over!

Use a Oil Based makeup remover on a cotton round and gently remove any makeup. The oil will help to soften the product to its easier to remove.

*What's the best liquid liner?
You want to use a liquid liner that gives you control and precision.
I love STILA Stay All Day Liquid Liner. Not only is it waterproof so it will not budge, but Its felt tip marker style helps to give you lots of control during your application.

*What do I do about adult acne? Never had it as a teen and now I'm almost 30 and I have acne!
Adult Acne is more common than you think. As our hormones change..our sebum and androgen levels change as well. You have to remember your skin is a reflection of what is going on inside your body. First look at what you are intaking on a daily basis. Second look at your water levels you consume everyday. Third, what type of daily skincare regimen do you have? Make sure to incorporate a Mask and/or Enzyme peel( not to be used on the same day, rotate every other week) once a month. Use a deep cleansing Scrub 1-2 times a week to clean out your pores. Stay consistent with the products you are using. If you keep changing them or are not consistent your skin will not achieve balance.

So I was in the Grand Central Terminal heading back home and the Gorgeous Gabby Sidibe got my eye on the New ELLE cover....there has been a lot of controversy on this cover....from her hair, that ELLE lightened up her skin etc.
First off I have to say she looks amazing and I love the fact they have a full figured woman on the front cover! She is rockin it out! Now as far as hair goes, I do agree with some people out there it is not the most flattering on her, And to all my African American Curved Beauty's out there, I want to hear from you on your thoughts!!! But to address her skin shade, it does seem a little lighter than what we are used to seeing..granted studio lighting can alter the change in skintone.......
However, one subject is a little too obvious...Gabby's picture is the only head shot on the Anniversary Cover of ELLE November Issue when 4 covers were shot, but her's is the only "up close and Personal" cover............................Im just saying!

Regardless...........Gabby you owned that cover and look gorgeous!

For those who grew up in the 80's it was all about side pony tails, neon headbands, scrunchy socks, mis-matched outfits and Debbie Gibson!

Before Beyonce...there was Tiffany & Debbie..I used to parade in my stripped shirt, with a hair brush in hand( used as a microphone of course) and dance my way to my walkman...what was playing? Debbie Gibson naturally...

Now theres the obvious reason why Tiffany & I were both "connected", who can resist a ginger bond between two capitol T's...but Debbie was special...She made me secretly want to be blonde, play the keyboard and shake my love across the west coast...Only in my dreams would I pretend to be on stage with both pop royalty as we sing to sold out concerts and in the end I would take center stage for a standing ovation...Ok, now were getting too dramatic..But in all reality these two 80's icons contributed to the animated and sometimes performance hungry( no not me!), energetic woman that I am today....

And Only in my Dreams would I dare to ever meet one of them.....Until, last night! I have to say a surreal moment it was, here was my Pop Icon I would listen to all hours of the day, watch her videos over and over again...What do I do? Do I bust "Out of the Blue" or put on my black hat and have a dance off with DB? Apparently, I forgot the 80's were over, so I would sit and wait until she noticed my.....eyeshadow..thats right, her and I had the same eyeshadow on...Its like we were secretly connected through a cosmetic universe! Debbie commented " I've been noticing your makeup, love your eyeshadow, we have the same one on..." Thats all I needed, my night complete...And when it was time to get a picture with her...she goes, "of course the girl with the green eyeshadow".....!

And there you have it, I could hear the little 80's girl inside of me screaming..she was so happy....

So today I decided to meet up with one of my Photographers, Mike Chaiken, who Ive worked with many times in Connecticut to shoot Professional Head Shots. No worries, just from the chest up, nothing crazy, nothing stressful....And this time I get to be in front of the camera!!!
Yet, on my way over to location, I was thinking to myself...."Tiffany you need to overcome your fear and do some full body shots!" Ya, Right!! Anyone who knows me can tell you Im a head shot girl, full body is not my thing...but why not?! For years I have had this fear of showcasing my curves, can you blame me since Im surrounded by size 2 models at my job...On the flip side Ive never been one to shy away from a camera( I know some of you are laughing)...So I decided as an Ambassador of Curved Beauty Divas everywhere to pose in front of the camera like it was nobody's business....and you know something?....I said to myself, "what was the big deal?"

In The Powder Room: CFDA Awards

Monday June 7th was full of fashion, Designers, Celebrities and a little L'Oreal Paris Beauty inside the Powder Rooms of the Alice Tully Hall for the 2010 CFDA Awards...Guests were greated by yours truly, ME, when they arrived inside the powder room. Embellished with fresh roses, candles and I was giving complimentary makeup touch ups for anyone who arrived. Also, one can not leave without a beauty goody to take home...Guests were given Infallible Plump Lipgloss, Extra Intense Liner, Magic Perfecting Base, Telescopic Mascara and Mini Ellnet Hairspray to add to their makeup Bags!

Brooke Shields stopped by to freshen up. I applied True Match Blush in Rosy Outlook to her cheeks to help brighten up her eyes. Gossip Girl, Michelle Trachtenburg, was raving about how much she loved Ellnet and took a Extra Intense Liner to touch up her Smokey Blue Eyes throughout the night...Actress Alexis Bledel and Maggie Grace chit chatted for a few on their exciting summer to come in the Hamptons. Anna was so gracious and super nice. Commenting on how "Brilliant" the setup was and even wished me a wonderful evening and told me to rest those feet of mine!! OMG!!!

So after a long and very eventful evening, I packed up my belongings and headed outside...Now one that knows me well can tell you I am not camera shy. So Im standing by the pickup area, Celebrities waiting for their rides and the cameras start flashing...Modest me...Are they taking pictures of me? I pop the hip out a little, put on a smile and look to my right only to find they were snapping photos of the handsome man beside me, Hayden Christensen....A girl can dream right?!

We, The L'Oreal Paris Pro team Artist, had the privilege of meeting Celebrity Makeup Artist, Ross Burton, in charge of transforming Curved Beauty Diva Oprah from cover to cover. Burton casually talked to us on his favorite L'Oreal Paris Products. One of his favs? The Magic Perfecting Base.

Burton advises for those who want a more natural look to apply the base over the skin and finish off with L'Oreal Paris Translucide Powder for a soft & smooth finish.

If you want a little color, Burton loves the Bare Naturale Glow, applied to the Forehead, Nose, Cheeks and chin for an all over glow. This is great for summer and is easy to do for an on the go look!

LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE!!!!!!!

What a great way to celebrate Mothers Day in NYC! OPRAH kicked off her celebration of 10 years with O Magazine at Gotham Hall on Friday May 7th for her LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE weekend. Guests were able to dine on Hors Devours, Strawberry Daquiris while dancing to a DJ mixed party! I was there with L'Oreal Paris as we added some Sparkle to everyones Lips, with L'Oreal Paris Infallible Plumping Lipgloss (Most Popular Shades- Plumped Coral & Plumped Plum), before they posed for Photographers.

OPRAH made sure no one left empty handed, every guest left with a gift Box loaded with a journal, pen, recycable bag, scarf and L'Oreal Paris lipgloss, sure to prepare them for the weekend ahead!!
Gayle King stopped by and worked her way through the crowd to give her thanks to everyone for attending. People from all over the world showed up, even a group of 5 woman from AUSTRALIA!!

The following day included seminars from Dr. OZ, Suze Orman and, the Queen herself, Oprah! The woman were also able to be pampered by L'Oreal Paris's Pro Team Artists, as they received tips and tricks on the latest products. All the woman were so grateful and left our chairs feeling beautiful and educated!

Apparently, Oprah brought "The Windy City" to us, for the weekend ended on a very Cold & Windy, yet exciting note, as Oprah and Many others made their way to Times Square for the end of the Walk finale. Guests included, Elizabeth Banks, Jennifer Hudson, Bete Midler, Gayle King, Dr. Oz, Mary J. Blige and many more...

Oprah I have to say, I met a lot of amazing women this weekend....They all had one thing in common, they were inspired, driven and wanted to begin the next steps on LIVING THEIR BEST LIFE!

Im always up for exploring another form of Beauty....Behold, a new adventure...I was asked to be a Judge at The New England Fitness Championship for Fitness Universe a couple of weeks ago. Now, I know what you're thinking..Muscled out, deep tans, no fat bodies strutting and flexing on stage. Not something you would normally find Tiffany doing...However, when i was sitting inches away from the stage, girl after girl walking by me in bathing suits..fitness wear...club outfits, I was noticing a trend....All woman have CURVES! No matter what shape or size you are, we all have those areas with a little extra cushion. Another surprise...? The fitness competition turned out to be a platform for woman of all ages to showcase their beautiful physiques. It was nothing I thought it was going to be...no overdone muscles, no extra orange tans...It was real woman with fit bodies....I learned a few lessons that day...Never be afraid of taking on a new challenge and Beauty comes in many forms, in this case....Women in bikinis and six inch heels...

AS YOU HAVE SEEN WITH MOST OF MY POSTS, IT SEEMS THE FASHION WORLD IS STARTING TO TAKE STEPS ON SHOWCASING ALL SHAPES & SIZES OF WOMEN. HOWEVER, FOX & ABC RECENTLY BANNED A LANE BRYANT COMMERCIAL(A CLOTHING LINE FOR PLUS SIZE WOMEN) STATING IT WAS "TOO RACY" FOR PUBLIC TV. NOW LETS LOOK AT THE OBVIOUS HERE....WE CAN SHOW A VICTORIAS SECRET COMMERCIAL & HOLIDAY RUNWAY SHOW( WE ALL KNOW THOSE ARE NOT DISCRETE) ON PUBLIC TV, BUT WE CAN NOT SHOW A COMMERCIAL OF A PLUS SIZE WOMAN IN LINGERIE???
THIS IS MAKING A HUGE STATEMENT!!!!
APPARENTLY, THE US IS NOT READY TO EMBRACE THE FACT WE HAVE FULL FIGURED WOMEN LIVING IN THIS COUNTRY.......
